KIRRAmaker (Km)

KIRRAmaker (Km) is the heart and pride of the Kirra Community. If you can imagine it, you can build it!

As a focal point, the Maker Space embraces 2 concepts of creativity, Fab Lab and Maker Space.

Our maker space is located in the Town Center under one roof of 324 square meters. Community Members, and Community Visitors can go nuts in this space. They can build almost anything in any number of disciplines and trades.

With an extensive array of equipment in the following areas the Kirra Community will revel with this facility.

Km has design and build capabilities with the following, fully functioning spaces:

• Automotive - With 2 automotive bays for vehicle servicing and repairs - with a vehicle hoist, automotive parts and machinery like air compressor, automotive tools and specialist automotive equipment.

• Electronics Lab - An advanced electronics lab with an Oscilloscope, Antenna Tuning equipment, Specialist Power supplies, Micro-controllers (PLC), Micro-computing devices like Arduino, ESP8266 and ESP32, Programming, a vast selection (into the hundreds of thousands) of electronic components and all the necessary tools to make your electronic idea happen.

• Video Production - Sound and Video Equipment, including 2 High-Def (HD) cameras and editing suit software, Camtasia. Your YouTube videos or professional corporate video production just got even more amazing. We also provide a subscription to "Speechelo" so you can professionally narrate your videos in a variety of languages too. We also provide a chromakey green screen area as part of the video lab, for you to shoot that video with any background.

• Sound Recording Studio - This unique space was the brainchild of one of our Friends of Kirra and the son of one of our members. A dedicated space to allow musicians and other sound recordings to happen with an extensive array of sound mixers and professional recording equipment. This is also an adjunct to the Video Production space and facilities.

• Computing Science - Need to fix a PC or write the next "Killer App" for the Internet, maintain your Blog or start a website. With our High-Speed Internet and Wi-Fi and a number of laptops available, this is all supported by a rack full of HP servers and other advanced equipment for developing just about any application that you can imagine, from Windows, Linux, Mobile or anything in-between. Use the electronics lab to build the device, then write the code in the Computer Science Lab.

• Plastics - Our fabrication space has a large format 3-D printer, with access to hundreds of meters of various coloured PETG, PLA, ABS and other plastic types available, there is no limit to what you can build here.

• Woodworking - All the machines that you need to produce beautifully hand-crafted one-off or multiple run items. Lathe, Belt and Disk Sander, Drill press,band-saw, thicknesser, laser cutting and engraving, and a wide variety of hand-tools and everything you need to go wild.

• Metalworking - With an extensive array of tooling, including Metal lathe, grinders, MIG Welder, Stick Welder, Oxy-Acetylene Gas Welding and brazing, power tools, air tools and everything you need for large projects or smaller sheet projects. One project is an "EDM" (Electrical Discharge Machining) tool, which can cut metal at a molecular level, using electronic discharge to vaporize minute amounts of material, capable of creating air tight cuts and perfect fitting pieces.

• Textiles - Tie-Dying, Sewing, textiles and Toys are all on the table, with our industrial (high-Speed 1000 stitch per minute) sewing machine. This space allows you to re-cover your old lounge, repair your torn jeans or patch that old hat. Breath a new lease of life into something old, repair it, don't replace it. We even have a variety of fabric paints, to brighten up your wardrobe.

• Pottery - Pottery Wheels, Kiln and tools to turn out hand crafted dinnerware, crockery or nick-knacks.

• General Technical Design - Auto CAD design software to complete simple or complex designs. Prototype the parts directly to 3-D printed parts, before fabrication. Some of our older members appreciate the old-school drawing board and Tee-Square approach. We've got you covered here too. Old-School "TD" (Technical Drawing) is part of this space.

• Sawmill - At 5.2 metres long, you can produce your own timber for your woodworking project using our 26" sawmill. Build a house or a music box, the choice is yours. Our Sawmill also has a 1 tonne gantry hoist to make material handling easier.

• Spray Painting - Our over-sized spray-painting booth allows you to respray your car if you want to. 

• Arts and Crafts - A general space for painting easels, Candle Making, Perfume Making, Incense and other types of crafts. Space, tools and materials. We are investing in some specialist tools like PVC cutters etc. to enhance the Arts and Crafts space.

Our maker space has a plethora of hand-tools, power tools and specialty tools all available to make your project come to life.
